Description

A delicious and versatile homemade stovetop applesauce that combines the sweet and tart flavors of apples with warming spices.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 4 cups fresh apples, peeled, cored, and chopped
  • 1/2 cup water
  • 1/4 cup sugar (optional)
  • 1 teaspoon cinnamon
  • 1 teaspoon lemon juice (optional)

Instructions

  1. Combine the ingredients in a large pot, mixing the chopped apples with the ½ cup of water.
  2. Bring to a boil over medium heat, watching it bubble with excitement.
  3. Reduce the heat and cover the pot; allow the apples to simmer for about 15-20 minutes, stirring occasionally.
  4. Add sugar, cinnamon, and lemon juice as desired once the apples soften.
  5. Mash to your liking using a potato masher or an immersion blender for a smoother finish.
  6. Serve immediately while warm or let cool before storing in the refrigerator.

Notes

Choose a mix of sweet and tart apples for optimal flavor. Make ahead to have handy for quick meals or snacks.
