- 1 teaspoon baking soda
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 1 cup unsalted butter, softened
- 1 1/2 cups granulated sugar
- 1 egg
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 1/2 teaspoon peppermint extract
- 1 cup powdered sugar
- 2 tablespoons milk
- Red food coloring
- Crushed peppermint candies for topping
Instructions
- Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and generously grease a 9×13 inch baking pan.
- Whisk together the flour, baking soda, and salt in a mixing bowl until well combined.
- Beat the softened butter and granulated sugar together using an electric mixer until light and fluffy (about 3-5 minutes).
- Crack in the egg and add the vanilla and peppermint extracts; beat until thoroughly combined.
- Gradually add the flour mixture to the wet ingredients, mixing on low speed until just combined.
- Spread the cookie dough evenly into the prepared baking pan.
- Bake for 20-25 minutes, or until edges are golden and a toothpick inserted comes out clean.
- Cool completely in the pan before frosting.
- Mix powdered sugar, milk, and red food coloring for frosting until smooth.
- Spread the frosting over the bars and sprinkle with crushed peppermint candies.
- Cut into squares and serve.
Notes
These bars can be made ahead of time and stored at room temperature for up to 3 days or frozen for up to 3 months.
