Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 large onions
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1 cup cold water
  • 1 cup breadcrumbs
  • Oil for frying

Instructions

  1. Slice the onions into thick rings, about a half-inch wide.
  2. Prepare the batter by whisking together the flour, baking powder, and salt.
  3. Add the cold water gradually to the dry ingredients, whisking until smooth.
  4. Coat each onion ring in the batter, allowing excess to drip off.
  5. Transfer the dipped rings to breadcrumbs and coat thoroughly.
  6. Heat the oil in a skillet to 375°F (190°C).
  7. Fry the onion rings in batches for 2-3 minutes per side until golden brown.
  8. Drain on paper towels and serve hot with dipping sauce.

Notes

Experiment with different seasonings in the batter for extra flavor.
