Description
Delight in these rich chocolate sugar cookie bars that are easy to make, combining a soft, fudgy center with a light, crunchy exterior.
Ingredients
Scale
- 2 cups all-purpose flour
- 1 cup granulated sugar
- 1/2 cup unsweetened cocoa powder
- 1/2 cup unsalted butter, softened
- 1 large egg
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 1/2 teaspoon baking soda
- 1/4 teaspoon salt
- 1 cup powdered sugar
- 2 tablespoons milk
- 1/2 cup chocolate chips
Instructions
- Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease a 9×13 inch baking pan, ensuring it’s fully coated to prevent sticking.
- Cream the softened butter and granulated sugar until smooth and light in color—this usually takes about 2-3 minutes.
- Beat in the egg and vanilla extract, blending everything until well incorporated.
- In a separate bowl, whisk together the flour, cocoa powder, baking soda, and salt.
- Slowly add the dry mixture to the wet mixture, stirring just until combined to avoid overmixing.
- Gently fold in the chocolate chips, allowing it to distribute evenly throughout the batter.
- Spread the rich chocolate batter into your prepared baking pan, smoothing out the top with a spatula to ensure an even bake.
- Bake for 20-25 minutes, and check doneness by inserting a toothpick into the center; it should come out with a few moist crumbs, not wet batter.
- Allow the bars to cool in the pan for about 10 minutes before frosting.
- To make the frosting, combine powdered sugar and milk until smooth, and drizzle it over the cooled bars.
- Cut into squares and serve to excited friends and family.
Notes
For a richer experience, add a sprinkle of sea salt on top of the frosting. These bars can be stored in an airtight container for up to a week.
