Description

A delicious Chicken Shawarma recipe packed with spices and flavor, serving it in warm pita bread with fresh veggies and a creamy garlic sauce.


Ingredients

  • 2 lbs boneless, skinless chicken thighs
  • 3 cloves garlic, minced
  • 2 tsp ground cumin
  • 1 tsp ground coriander
  • 1 tsp paprika
  • 1/2 tsp turmeric
  • 1/2 tsp cayenne pepper
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • 3 tbsp olive oil
  • 1/4 cup plain yogurt
  • 1/4 cup tahini
  • Juice of 1 lemon
  • Pita bread, for serving
  • Chopped lettuce, tomatoes, and cucumbers, for garnish

Instructions

  1. Combine the minced garlic, cumin, coriander, paprika, turmeric, cayenne, salt, pepper, and olive oil in a large bowl.
  2. Whisk until the mixture is well blended and aromatic.
  3. Add the chicken thighs to the marinade, ensuring they are thoroughly coated, cover, and refrigerate for at least 1 hour, preferably overnight.
  4. Preheat a grill or skillet over medium-high heat, then place the marinated chicken on the grill.
  5. Cook for about 6-7 minutes on each side or until the internal temperature reaches 165°F.
  6. Remove the chicken from heat and let it rest for a few minutes.
  7. Prepare the garlic sauce by mixing yogurt, tahini, lemon juice, and minced garlic in a bowl, seasoning with salt to taste.
  8. Slice the cooked chicken thinly and serve in warm pita bread, drizzled with garlic sauce and topped with chopped lettuce, tomatoes, and cucumbers.

Notes

Marinate the chicken overnight for the best flavor. Serve immediately for freshness.
