Description

A comforting patty melt featuring a juicy beef patty, melted cheese, and caramelized onions, all nestled between crispy toasted bread.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 lb Ground Beef (80/20)
  • 4 slices American or Swiss Cheese
  • 4 slices Rye or Sourdough Bread
  • 2 tbsp Butter
  • 1 Onion (optional)
  • Secret Sauce: Ketchup, Mustard, Pickles

Instructions

  1. Prepare the patties: Form ground beef into patties slightly larger than the bread slices, seasoning with salt and pepper.
  2. Heat the skillet: Preheat over medium-high heat, then add patties for 3-4 minutes per side until desired doneness.
  3. Add onions: If using, add to the pan after flipping the patty and cook until golden brown.
  4. Melt the cheese: In the last minute of cooking, place cheese over the patty and cover the skillet.
  5. Butter the bread: Butter one side of each slice of bread.
  6. Assemble the sandwich: Layer the patty (with cheese) and optional onions between two slices of bread, buttered sides out.
  7. Grill the sandwich: Grill on medium-low heat for 3-4 minutes on each side, pressing gently for a crispy exterior.
  8. Serve with secret sauce on the side.

Notes

Make patties in advance for convenience. Consider using an air fryer for a healthier cooking method.
