- 1 lb Ground Beef (80/20)
- 4 slices American or Swiss Cheese
- 4 slices Rye or Sourdough Bread
- 2 tbsp Butter
- 1 Onion (optional)
- Secret Sauce: Ketchup, Mustard, Pickles
Instructions
- Prepare the patties: Form ground beef into patties slightly larger than the bread slices, seasoning with salt and pepper.
- Heat the skillet: Preheat over medium-high heat, then add patties for 3-4 minutes per side until desired doneness.
- Add onions: If using, add to the pan after flipping the patty and cook until golden brown.
- Melt the cheese: In the last minute of cooking, place cheese over the patty and cover the skillet.
- Butter the bread: Butter one side of each slice of bread.
- Assemble the sandwich: Layer the patty (with cheese) and optional onions between two slices of bread, buttered sides out.
- Grill the sandwich: Grill on medium-low heat for 3-4 minutes on each side, pressing gently for a crispy exterior.
- Serve with secret sauce on the side.
