Description

A heartwarming Mushroom Swiss Burger Casserole with layers of ground beef, sautéed mushrooms, creamy sauce, and crispy tater tots.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 pounds ground beef
  • 1 medium onion, diced
  • 8 ounces mushrooms, sliced
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
  • 1 cup beef broth
  • 1 cup heavy cream
  • 1 cup shredded Swiss cheese
  • 4 cups frozen tater tots
  • 1 teaspoon dried thyme
  • 1 teaspoon paprika
  • Fresh parsley, chopped (for garnish)

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
  2. Add ground beef to a large skillet over medium heat. Cook until browned, about 5 to 7 minutes. Drain excess fat.
  3. Add diced onion and sliced mushrooms to the skillet. Sauté for another 5 to 7 minutes until softened.
  4. Stir in minced garlic, salt, pepper, Worcestershire sauce, beef broth, and heavy cream. Simmer for about 5 minutes.
  5. Remove from heat and mix in ½ cup of shredded Swiss cheese, thyme, and paprika.
  6. Pour the mixture into a greased 9×13-inch baking dish, spreading it evenly.
  7. Arrange frozen tater tots on top of the beef mixture.
  8. Sprinkle the remaining ½ cup of Swiss cheese over the tater tots.
  9. Bake for 30 to 35 minutes until tater tots are golden brown.
  10. Allow to rest for a few minutes before serving, garnished with fresh parsley.

Notes

Make ahead by preparing the beef mixture a day before and layering it in a baking dish. For freezing, cover with foil and thaw in the refrigerator before baking.
