A heartwarming Mushroom Swiss Burger Casserole with layers of ground beef, sautéed mushrooms, creamy sauce, and crispy tater tots.

- 2 pounds ground beef
- 1 medium onion, diced
- 8 ounces mushrooms, sliced
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
- 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
- 1 cup beef broth
- 1 cup heavy cream
- 1 cup shredded Swiss cheese
- 4 cups frozen tater tots
- 1 teaspoon dried thyme
- 1 teaspoon paprika
- Fresh parsley, chopped (for garnish)
Instructions
- Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
- Add ground beef to a large skillet over medium heat. Cook until browned, about 5 to 7 minutes. Drain excess fat.
- Add diced onion and sliced mushrooms to the skillet. Sauté for another 5 to 7 minutes until softened.
- Stir in minced garlic, salt, pepper, Worcestershire sauce, beef broth, and heavy cream. Simmer for about 5 minutes.
- Remove from heat and mix in ½ cup of shredded Swiss cheese, thyme, and paprika.
- Pour the mixture into a greased 9×13-inch baking dish, spreading it evenly.
- Arrange frozen tater tots on top of the beef mixture.
- Sprinkle the remaining ½ cup of Swiss cheese over the tater tots.
- Bake for 30 to 35 minutes until tater tots are golden brown.
- Allow to rest for a few minutes before serving, garnished with fresh parsley.
Notes
Make ahead by preparing the beef mixture a day before and layering it in a baking dish. For freezing, cover with foil and thaw in the refrigerator before baking.
