Description

Delicious golden, flaky pastries filled with savory seasoned ground beef and spices, evoking the vibrant flavors of Jamaica.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 lb ground beef
  • 1/2 cup diced onion
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 teaspoon thyme
  • 1 teaspoon allspice
  • 1/2 teaspoon cayenne pepper
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • 1/3 cup beef broth
  • 1 package (1 lb) all-purpose flour
  • 1/4 cup unsalted butter, chilled and diced
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • Cold water as needed

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C).
  2. Heat a skillet over medium heat. Add ground beef, diced onions, and minced garlic, cooking until the beef browns and onions become translucent.
  3. Stir in the spices: thyme, allspice, cayenne, salt, pepper, and beef broth. Allow the mixture to simmer gently to thicken.
  4. Prepare the dough: In a mixing bowl, combine flour and salt. Cut in the chilled butter until it resembles coarse crumbs.
  5. Add cold water gradually, mixing until a cohesive dough forms.
  6. Roll out the dough on a floured surface to about 1/8-inch thickness. Cut into circles using a cookie cutter.
  7. Fill each circle with a spoonful of the beef mixture, fold the dough over, and seal the edges.
  8. Arrange the patties on a baking sheet. Bake for 25-30 minutes until golden brown.
  9. Serve warm, on their own or with your favorite dipping sauce.

Notes

For flakier crust, use chilled ingredients. Prepare filling in advance for best flavor.
