A gourmet twist on traditional sloppy joes featuring tender beef, caramelized onions, and melted Swiss cheese in a toasted bun.
Ingredients

- 1 pound ground beef
- 1 large onion, sliced
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- 1 tablespoon olive oil
- 1 teaspoon Worcestershire sauce
- 1 teaspoon soy sauce
- 1 teaspoon dried thyme
- Salt and pepper to taste
- 4 hamburger buns
- 1 cup shredded Swiss cheese
Instructions
- Heat olive oil in a large skillet over medium heat. Add the sliced onions, stirring occasionally. Cook for 10-12 minutes until caramelized.
- Add the minced garlic and cook for 1-2 minutes.
- Push the onions to the side and add the ground beef. Brown the beef, breaking it apart as it cooks.
- Drain excess fat, then mix in Worcestershire sauce, soy sauce, and thyme. Season with salt and pepper. Simmer for 5 minutes.
- Toast the hamburger buns until golden brown in the oven.
- Spoon the beef mixture onto the bottom half of each bun and top with Swiss cheese, then place the top bun.
Notes
Make the beef mixture ahead of time and store it in an airtight container. Reheat when ready to serve.
