- 1 lb ground beef
- 2 large onions, sliced
- 2 tablespoons butter
- 1 cup beef broth
- 1 teaspoon Worcestershire sauce
- Salt and pepper to taste
- 4 sandwich buns, lightly toasted
- 1 cup Swiss cheese, shredded
Instructions
- In a skillet, melt the butter over medium heat. Add the sliced onions and cook until golden brown, about 15 minutes.
- Add the ground beef to the skillet, breaking it apart. Cook until browned, and drain excess fat.
- Pour in the beef broth and Worcestershire sauce, and season with salt and pepper. Simmer until thickened, about 5-7 minutes.
- Toast the sandwich buns until golden and crisp.
- Spoon the beef mixture onto the bottom half of each bun and top with shredded Swiss cheese.
- Place under the broiler until the cheese is melted and bubbling.
- Top with the other half of the bun and serve hot.
Notes
For a lighter option, substitute ground turkey or chicken for beef. Can also use gluten-free buns.
