Description

A unique burger featuring savory beef, sweet caramelized onions, and creamy sauce, all layered between two golden-brown onion slices.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 large yellow onion
  • 2 tbsp olive oil
  • 1 tbsp Worcestershire sauce
  • 1/2 tsp Tony Chachere’s or preferred Creole seasoning
  • 1/2 tsp brown sugar
  • 12 oz 80/20 ground beef
  • 4 slices American cheese
  • 1/2 cup mayonnaise
  • 2 tbsp relish
  • 1 tbsp Dijon mustard
  • 1 tbsp Worcestershire sauce
  • 1 tsp sugar
  • 1 tsp garlic powder
  • 1 tsp onion powder
  • 1 tsp smoked paprika
  • 1 tsp Tony Chachere’s or preferred Creole seasoning
  • Cayenne pepper to taste

Instructions

  1. Prepare the onions: Peel the yellow onion and slice it into four ½-inch thick rounds. Drizzle each slice with olive oil and Worcestershire sauce, then sprinkle with Creole seasoning and a pinch of brown sugar.
  2. Caramelize the onions: In your skillet over medium-low heat, cook the onion slices for about 10 minutes on each side until deep brown and tender.
  3. Season the beef: Combine ground beef with the remaining Tony Chachere’s seasoning. Divide into four equal portions, roll into balls, then flatten into patties.
  4. Cook the patties: Preheat the skillet to medium-high heat and sear each patty for about 2-3 minutes on each side.
  5. Melt the cheese: When patties are nearly done, place a slice of American cheese on each and cover the skillet for about a minute.
  6. Make the sauce: In a separate bowl, whisk mayonnaise, relish, Dijon mustard, Worcestershire sauce, sugar, garlic powder, onion powder, smoked paprika, and Tony Chachere’s until smooth.
  7. Assemble the burger: Grab a caramelized onion slice, place a cheesy patty on top, add sauce, and crown with another onion slice.
  8. Serve: Plate the burgers immediately with extra sauce on the side.

Notes

Caramelizing the onions requires patience for the best flavor; consider substituting American cheese for sharp cheddar for a bolder taste.
