- 4 cups cheddar cheese, shredded
- 2 cups milk
- 1/2 cup sour cream
- 1/4 cup butter
- 1/4 cup all-purpose flour
- 1 lb cooked brisket, shredded
- 1 cup fried onion strings
- 1/2 cup BBQ sauce
- Salt and pepper to taste
Instructions
- Cook the macaroni according to package instructions, ensuring it remains slightly firm (al dente) then drain and set aside.
- In a medium saucepan, melt the butter over medium heat. Whisk in the flour, cooking for 1-2 minutes until slightly golden.
- Gradually add the milk, whisking continuously until the mixture thickens, about 4-5 minutes.
- Remove from heat and stir in the shredded cheddar cheese until fully melted and smooth.
- Add in the sour cream, salt, and pepper; mix well to incorporate all flavors.
- Gently combine cooked macaroni with the cheese sauce.
- In a baking dish, layer half of the mac and cheese, followed by the shredded brisket, then the remaining mac and cheese.
- Drizzle BBQ sauce over the top and sprinkle with fried onion strings.
- Bake at 350°F (175°C) for 20-25 minutes until bubbly and golden brown.
- Allow to rest for a few minutes before serving.
